FreeBSD ZFS vs. Linux EXT4/Btrfs RAID With Twenty SSDs

With 4K writes via IOzone, EXT4 RAID0 performance was the fastest followed by Btrfs RAID0. For IOzone, Linux was much faster than FreeBSD 12 with ZFS.

The EXT4 file-system configuration meanwhile was the fastest for CompileBench during the I/O heavy initial create task.

EXT4 RAID0 performance was very fast for the PostgreSQL database server more so than Btrfs. FreeBSD 12 with ZFS out-of-the-box was running much slower than Linux for this popular open-source SQL database server.

Those are some initial benchmarks so far. Next from the 20 x SSD benchmarking series will be looking at the ZFS On Linux 0.8 performance against FreeBSD ZFS for looking at how its performance compares and potentially OpenIndiana ZFS too.
