When running the Unigine Haven benchmark in a windowed mode, there was no real difference between the desktops/sessions.

But when running Unigine Heaven full-screen under the GNOME Shell Wayland session, there continues to be the nosedive in performance.

Unigine Superposition had a similar outcome where under X.Org the performance was the same or when running with Wayland in windowed mode, but in full-screen mode on the Wayland compositor session the performance was a wreck.
