The Disappointing Direction Of Linux Performance From 4.16 To 5.4 Kernels

The x265 video encoding has surprisingly performed a bit better since Linux 5.1.

Code compilation speed has been slightly lower with Linux 5.2 kernels and newer.

The Hackbench Linux kernel scheduler benchmark has shown many slowdowns as a result of mitigations and other regressions.

Like the code comilation slowdown, PostgreSQL is also slower with Linux 5.2 and newer. Linux 5.2 is the release where MDS mitigations were introduced mainline (sans the back-ported pointed releases).

Similarly, the SQLite Speedtest has been slower since Linux 5.2 but not as bad as the SQLite regression we saw in the other insertion test at the beginning.
