The Performance Impact Of MDS / Zombieload Plus The Overall Cost Now Of Spectre/Meltdown/L1TF/MDS
JavaScript performance in the web browser if anything is only minimally impacted by the MDS mitigations.
The OSBench micro-benchmarks show slightly higher costs to various operations following this week's MDS mitigations.
If looking at the geometric mean of all the benchmarks carried out for this comparison focused on MDS/Zombieload, there is an 8~10% performance hit in affected workloads. Granted, many of the tests used were micro-benchmarks and not strictly limited to real-world workloads.
Now let's see how the Spectre/Meltdown/Foreshadow/Zombieload mitigations stack up.
