With the F1 22 racing game running on Linux via Steam Play, at 1440p with ultra high settings the Radeon RX 7900 XTX was coming out ahead of the GeForce RTX 4090. The RX 7900 XTX at launch had some issues with F1 22 running on the Mesa RADV Vulkan driver at the time but those issues have since been worked out and going by these results the performance is quite in good shape against the RTX 40 competition.

But if you are a 4K gamer, it's in that more demanding scenario where the GeForce RTX 4090 easily shines and is significantly faster than all of the other graphics cards tested. The Radeon RX 7900 XTX did come out 12% faster than the GeForce RTX 4080 in this game and the RTX 4090 had a nice 61% generational uplift from the RTX 3090 for this modern F1 racing game.

The RX 7900 XTX was tending to have lower peak frame times for F1 22 on Linux compared to the RTX 4080/4090.

While the RTX 4090 easily led with the best 4K performance for F1 22, its price put the performance-per-dollar only comparable to the other RTX 30 and RTX 4080 graphics cards.

The GPU power consumption was comparable between the RTX 3090 and RTX 4090 while running F1 22 on Linux. With this game was another example of the RTX 4080 power consumption coming in lower than the RTX 3080.

When maxing out F1 22 with ultra high quality settings at 4K, the GeForce RTX 4090 continued to easily lead for the best raw performance though the peak frame times were higher than what was encountered with the Radeon RX 7900 XTX on Linux with the RADV driver.
