Sequential reads on the Samsung 870 QVO were much faster than the 860 QVO while the sequential write performance was similar among these low-end SATA 3.0 solid-state drives.

Obviously if you can afford it, using an NVMe solid-state drive is much faster than SATA 3.0. When running various tests on the Samsung 870 QVO 1TB SSD, the performance was just marginally better than the Samsung 860 QVO and slightly ahead of the aging Samsung 850 EVO and Crucial BX500 drives available for testing. The performance also depends upon the SLC cache usage, but long story short don't expect any miracles out of the Samsung 870 QVO or much more than economical, high capacity consumer-grade SSDs.

Those wanting to compare their own Linux storage performance against the drives in this article can install the Phoronix Test Suite and run phoronix-test-suite benchmark 2007276-NE-STORAGE5735.
