Tweaking Ubuntu 17.10 To Try To Run Like Clear Linux
In the Python PyBench, Clear Linux has a slight lead over Ubuntu.
As well as with PHPBench, Clear Linux has a noticeable advantage over Ubuntu 17.10.
The SciKit-Learn benchmark finishes in about half the time of Ubuntu and making the performance tweaks only led to a slight improvement.
Switching to the performance governor on Ubuntu helped in the case of FS-Mark where it was now able to run at about the same speed of Clear Linux. But keep in mind this is one of the tests affected by Retpoline. Once Ubuntu enables Retpoline support, it will likely have a tougher time hitting the Clear I/O numbers.
In the case of Compile Bench, even with Clear Linux carrying the retpoline patches it still came out well ahead of Ubuntu 17.10.
