Trying Out DRM-Next With Radeon/AMDGPU Drivers Ahead Of Linux 4.4

With Metro 2033 Redux, the HD 6870 isn't reported since it doesn't yet work with the Metro games due to its OpenGL 4 requirements. In terms of the R9 285, R9 290, and R9 Fury, there wasn't any large performance differences between the current Linux 4.3 code and what's in DRM-Next right now. The R9 285 and R9 Fury performance remains very slow right now due to the AMDGPU kernel driver not yet implementing power management / re-clocking support so that these newer GPUs can operate at their fully rated frequencies.

Metro Last Light Redux is pretty much the same store as Metro 2033 Redux.

While the R9 285 and R9 Fury could run the demanding Metro games, these cards on the AMDGPU kernel driver failed to run the very basic OpenArena game... One oddity to report from these results is that the Radeon HD 6870 was running faster than the R9 290 for this game on the same system. Fortunately, with the DRM-Next code it looks like the R9 290 performance has a nice speed boost.
