The Intel CPUs continue running much better than the AMD Ryzen 7 CPUs at single-threaded workloads like FLAC audio encoding.

The R programming language for statistical computing also runs much faster on Intel CPUs than Ryzen 7.

The difference is even more profound with the common Linux cryptsetup utility's performance. The i9-9900K was coming in line with the i7-8086K given the same 5.0GHz single-core turbo boost frequency between these Coffeelake processors.

The libjpeg-turbo's TJBENCH for JPEG decompression test is another one of the real-world single-threaded tests for this Core i9 9900K benchmarking. With this JPEG benchmark the i9-9900K was 16% faster than the Ryzen 7 2700X.
