While idling, the newest kernel code was showing just 0.1~0.2 Watts lower power use than Linux 4.0 stable or about 1 Watt since Linux 3.19. But the workload numbers are where there seems to be a greater difference.

With the PostMark disk benchmark, going from Linux 4.0 to 4.1 Git dropped this Intel ultrabook's power use from 23.3 Watts to 21.7 Watts on average or from a peak of 25.4 Watts to 23.5 Watts.

The performance was basically the same across the tested kernels.

With Xonotic, there wasn't much of a power consumption difference but at least the frame-rates were slightly higher.
