While offering the same level of performance, the 4.1 Git kernel dropped the LAME MP3 power consumption from 21.5 to 20.1 Watts on average while the peak was also down comparably.

With FFmpeg, the power consumption under Linux 4.1 was also slightly reduced.

This ASUS Zenbook was tested first simply since it was the first Intel Haswell ultrabook/laptop in sight at Phoronix. With Linux 4.1 it seems this ultrabook can perform the same while consuming ~7%+ less power.

Stay tuned for more Intel Linux power tests from the 4.1 kernel shortly on Phoronix as the cause of this power efficiency improvement are investigated. If you have any early experience on Linux 4.1 you'd like to share please let us know via the forums.
