12-Way AMD Catalyst 14.12 vs. NVIDIA 346 Series Linux GPU Comparison

The Radeon R9 290 did very well with the Furmark synthetic test and its performance was competing very well against the highest-end NVIDIA offerings. It's too bad I don't have a Radeon R9 290X for Linux benchmarking.

GpuTest's TessMark tessellation benchmark showed the Radeon hardware with Catalyst 14.12 on Linux performing very poorly against the GeForce GPUs on the NVIDIA 346 driver series.

With the simple triangle benchmark for testing video memory bandwidth, the Radeon R9 290 was much faster than all eleven of the other GPUs benchmarked.

While the AMD Catalyst Linux driver continues to improve, the OpenGL performance and support still tends to side with the NVIDIA Linux driver.
