With the open-source Tesseract game the GeForce GTX 960 was beating out all of the Radeon GPUs -- including the R9 285 Tonga and R9 290 Hawaii. This isn't supposed to happen, but alas the Catalyst Linux driver is still going through a process of being cleaned-up and is acting rather wonky on Catalyst 14.12.

The GTX 960 performs between the R9 285 and R9 290 for Unigine Heaven at 1080p... But again, take the Radeon results worth a grain of salt for now due to the Catalyst Linux driver situation.
