With Xonotic, the Catalyst driver in this situation appears to hit a bottleneck around 140~150 FPS with the various GCN graphics cards benchmarked while the NVIDIA Linux driver doesn't run into this issue.

With the very demanding Furmark, the Catalyst Linux driver runs this demanding OpenGL torture test fine. In this case, the GeForce GTX 960 is 13% faster than the HD 7950 while the Radeon R9 270X / R9 285 are about 23~25% faster.
