NVIDIA's Latest Maxwell Line-Up Against AMD With Catalyst On Linux
Lastly are some OpenCL benchmarks via LuxMark where Catalyst 14.12 on Linux doesn't run into any severe issues.
With the LuxMark OpenCL tests, the GTX 960 is running around the speed of the Radeon HD 7950 with these latest drivers on Ubuntu 14.10.
Well, there you have it for an 18-way graphics card comparison between NVIDIA and AMD on the latest proprietary drivers. Unfortunately it doesn't add much value over my original GeForce GTX 960 on Linux article and the NVIDIA Linux comparison from last week, due to the Catalyst 14.12 Linux driver issues. Once there's a new Catalyst 15.xx Linux driver available, you can be sure that there will be new graphics test results available on Phoronix.
Overall the GeForce GTX 960 is a nice, Linux-friendly graphics card in the $200~240 USD range that should play fine with modern Linux distributions as long as you opt to use the proprietary driver. Thanks go out to NVIDIA and EVGA for supplying the EVGA GeForce GTX 960 SSC graphics card used in these tests.
