All the testing occurred on an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X test system running Ubuntu 23.10 with the Linux 6.7 stable kernel. All the AMD Radeon graphics cards were tested on Mesa 24.1-devel Git via the Oibaf PPA as of 15 January. On the NVIDIA side the NVIDIA 545.29.06 packaged driver was used.

Timing of this is a bit peculiar as only last week did I receive the rest of the NVIDIA RTX 40 series graphics cards released so far... NVIDIA had been slow in getting me the rest of the RTX 40 review samples but they finally arrived a few days ago albeit with re-testing all of the other graphics cards for this launch, there are various RTX 4060/4070 cards I didn't have in time for today's review. So from a competitive perspective there's some missing data points but will be filled-in with NVIDIA RTX 40 Linux benchmarks coming up on Phoronix in the days ahead in future articles when I've had time to properly test those cards.

In any event while waiting on the hardware I was able to go back a few generations with all these fresh data points for those weighing a graphics card upgrade for Linux gaming.
