AMDGPU vs. Radeon DRM On Linux 4.13 For AMD GCN 1.0/1.1 GPUs

With BioShock Infinite there were a few big changes: both the R9 270X and the very similar R7 370 both suffered a very measurable performance loss when using the experimental AMDGPU DRM driver from Linux 4.13-rc1. Meanwhile, the Radeon R9 290 is performing much better with AMDGPU than Radeon DRM. This particular Radeon R9 290 Hawaii card was previously regressed with Radeon DRM, but recently it did start performing right again with mainline Radeon DRM. However, as of Linux 4.13-rc1, the R9 290 is again acting up very oddly in many benchmarks/games... At least though the R9 290 has always played nicely with AMDGPU DRM for as long as the experimental support has been available.

Not any real differences with Civilization VI between the two kernel drivers.

With Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is a scenario similar to BioShock Infinite where the R9 270X and R7 370 are much slower with AMDGPU while the R9 290 runs properly with AMDGPU.

And the same story with Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.
