NVIDIA RTX 30 Series vs. AMD Radeon Linux Gaming Performance For April 2021

When running Batman: Arkham Knight on Linux via Steam Play with DXVK, the entire RTX 30 line-up was easily playable to no surprise. It was interesting to see though the Radeon RX 6800 XT with the RADV driver performing just behind the RTX 3090 while the RX 6800 matched the RTX 3080. Unfortunately I don't have any Radeon RX 6900 XT for comparison at this point. Meanwhile the RX 6800 XT was just frames behind the RTX 3070.

But when pushing the game harder with a 4K resolution, the NVIDIA RTX 30 series was kicking into higher gear. The RDNA2 performance though on the open-source RADV driver was still performing well though with the RX 6800 XT matching the RTX 3080 while the RX 6700 XT was close to the RTX 3060 Ti.

The RDNA2 graphics cards for this test were coming out ahead of the Ampere graphics cards in performance-per-Watt for this Steam Play game.

DiRT Rally 2.0 also running on Linux through Steam Play saw the RX 6800 XT competing with the RTX 3090 and the RX 6800 with the RTX 3080. The RX 6700 XT was matching the RTX 3070. All of the RTX 30 series cards tested were running well above the 60 FPS threshold although the RTX 3060 did have a minimum frame-rate dipping below.

When running DiRT Rally 2.0 at 4K with ultra quality settings on Ubuntu, the RTX 3060 Ti / Radeon VII and above were still running well enough above the 60 FPS mark. The RX 6800 series on the RADV Vulkan driver continued competing with the RTX 3080/3090 series on Linux. Going from the RTX 2080 Ti to RTX 3090 was a 39% increase in performance while lower down the stack from the RTX 2060 to RTX 3060 was a 15% improvement.
