NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 To RTX 4060 GPU Compute & Renderer Performance On Linux

When taking the geometric mean of all the different benchmarks carried out for this article, the GeForce RTX 4060 was a healthy 24% faster than the GeForce RTX 3060, which itself was behind the RTX 2060 SUPER in numerous compute tests. But that improvement is overshadowed by the prior generation GeForce RTX 3060 Ti being about 15% faster than the GeForce RTX 4060. The RTX 3060 Ti can be found for as low as $339 USD as a prior generation GPU while the RTX 4060 pricing starts out at $299. If you want the best mid-range performance and power efficiency isn't a big concern, the RTX 3060 Ti is the much better value.

Here is the GPU power consumption results across all of the benchmarks conducted. On average the GeForce RTX 4060 was pulling around 85 Watts with a peak of 117 Watts, a nice improvement over the RTX 3060 being at a 94 Watt average and 167 Watt peak. The GeForce RTX 4060 tended to lead across the compute benchmarks for the best performance-per-Watt.

The MSI GeForce RTX 4060 also had the lowest average operating temperature of the graphics cards tested for this comparison.
