Well, that's what the OpenGL and OpenCL scene on Linux looks like right now when using the very latest proprietary graphics drivers... NVIDIA's driver continues to deliver optimal performance on Linux when it comes to modern games available via Steam, however, the AMD Catalyst Linux driver is still going through a maturing state. The AMD Catalyst Linux driver has been making improvements more aggressively in the past year or so, but as shown by these results, there's still cases where the games are missrendering under Linux with Catalyst or just deliver shockingly bad performance. At least with OpenCL, the Catalyst Linux driver continues running great and shows that the latest AMD graphics cards do have potential under Linux. Hopefully later this year the rest of the Catalyst Linux OpenGL issues will be resolved and that the Radeon Rx 300 series will be able to run nicely for Linux gamers. Stay tuned for further benchmarks when the time comes.

If you wish to see how your own Linux system compares to all of the results shown in this article, with the open-source Phoronix Test Suite benchmarking software it's as easy as running phoronix-test-suite benchmark 1506022-BE-PHORONIX139 to run and compare these tests side-by-side.

Lastly, don't forget later this week should be some open-source graphics driver results in celebrating the 11th birthday of Phoronix for covering the Linux hardware scene. There's also the GPU thermal and power consumption data being held for a separate article. As a reminder, if you appreciate these large Linux hardware comparisons and wish to see Phoronix have many more of them going into its eleventh year, please consider subscribing to Phoronix Premium or making a PayPal tip.
