Intel Core i7 1280P "Alder Lake P" Linux Laptop Performance
Moving beyond the integrated graphics, the Core i7 1280P was frequently tossing blows with the Ryzen 7 PRO 5850U and the Ryzen 9 5900HX. For the WireGuard secure VPN tunnel benchmark that isn't multi-threaded, the Core i7 1280P was faster than the Zen 3 notebooks tested.
While the Core i7 1280P features 20 threads, there are just six performance cores. In demanding multi-core benchmarks like NAMD, the AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX with its eight (performance) cores / sixteen threads was delivering much better performance over the Intel hybrid notebook.
But in other real-world creator workloads from WebP image encoding to JSON parsing to OpenJDK Java programs with varying levels of multi-threaded usage, the Core i7 1280P was coming on as a strong offering under Linux.
