While not fully leveraging all of the CPU cores, the Xeon Sapphire Rapids processors were performing very well with OpenJDK Java workloads -- traditionally an area where Intel CPUs have led around the best Java performance.

For CPU-based 3D rendering like with the popular Blender software, the Sapphire Rapids performance is much stronger thanks to the increased core counts and larger cache, but trail behind Genoa and even Milan(X) in core/thread counts.

Intel's Embree ray-tracing kernels saw the Xeon Platinum 8490H 2P trail behind a single EPYC 9654 processor.

But when it comes to Intel's Open Image Denoise library that is part of their oneAPI collection, the Xeon Platinum 8490H performance impresses.

Though on a performance-per-Watt basis the top-end Genoa SKUs were better positioned for this denoising library.
