For the multi-threaded BRL-CAD open-source CAD program the Xeon Platinum 8490 managed to come out ahead of the EPYC 9554 -- in both 1P and 2P configurations, respectively -- but trailed behind the flagship EPYC 9654 model.

The Liquid-DSP open-source digital signal processing library saw more than 2x the performance when going from the flagship Ice Lake to Sapphire Rapids processors.

It was a busy weekend of benchmarking with finally having my hands on Sapphire Rapids.

The Xeon Platinum 8490H was enjoying much better performance over Ice Lake with the OpenFOAM 10 computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software. Though here the Xeon Platinum 8490H only was coming just behind the EPYC 9374F performance and the EPYC 7773X Milan-X performs very well here as well with its large cache. Again, a workload that should be quite interesting for running on the Intel Xeon CPU Max Series as that 64GB of HBM2e should help a lot with this leading open-source CFD software.

The Xeon Platinum 8490H continued consuming significantly more power than the other tested processors.
